Black and Latinx Youth Immersion
Soul Fire Farm and Wildseed Community Farm present:
The Black and Latinx Youth Immersion is a “rites of passage” program rooted in land, love, and liberation. Diasporic youth, ages 12-14 will be supported to tap into the power of Land as a tool for their personal and collective liberation. Together, we will engage in sustainable farming and natural cooking, both as skill-building exercises and means for emotional-spiritual growth. There will be abundant unstructured time in nature, observing, playing, art, music, and learning the language of Earth. Opportunities to give thanks and call in blessings will be informed by African traditional religious practice (Ifa-Vodun). The young people will also learn some of the revolutionary history of their ancestors’ struggle for land sovereignty and how they can shape this movement today. The immersion will culminate in a rite of passage ritual, where they summit a mountain, connect to their ancestors, and receive the beads of adulthood. Youth who are accepted to the program will be invited to give input on its structure and relative emphasis. July 24-29, 2017. Apply for BLYI here.
