Select Readings and Resources for Continuing Professional Education for Dietetics Professionals as part of Food Solutions New England’s 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge

The Food Solutions New England’s 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Participation in the Challenge helps us to discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact the food system as we identify ways to dismantle racism and become better leaders for a more just, equitable food system.  Registered Dietitians, Nutritionists, and Diet Technicians are invited and encouraged to participate in the entire 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge for the full breadth and depth of the experience. However, for self-study documentation, the following select readings and resources have been chosen with the scope of dietetics practice in mind as a way to earn 5 CPE credits (approved by the Commission on Dietetics Registration).   Academy professionals may be aware of the connection between race and health disparities through their scope of practice. The goals of this self-study are to: 1) provide an opportunity for deeper explorations of the role of race and equity in our current food system, 2) facilitate the discernment of personal and professional strategies to thoughtfully and systematically promote greater racial equity and food justice, and 3) position professionals to identify a breadth and depth of timely resources on this topic. 

By using a variety of resources, nutrition professionals may expand their knowledge of reputable resources for timely data and discourse on race, equity, and food systems.
